The Trust Fund

There are two types of people, one who trusts no ones and one who trusts everyone.

I belong to the latter group – I always choose to trust someone first. I know, it sounds naive right? It’s very tiring for me to be skeptical at everyone, so I decided to just trust people first. How does my logic work? I keep an account of trust fund with everyone.

For those who trusts no ones, the account balance starts from zero; and top up over time. For me, the trust fund always starts with big balance, until the other people start to discount themselves. They lie? Withdraw. Not authentic? Withdraw. Promised something but never deliver? Withdraw. Do something good? Top up. Like-minded? Top up.

Most of us don’t realize there is an invisible trust fund in every relationship, it takes effort to maintain a healthy balance. Likewise, its balance does not go down all in one day too. Usually it is destroyed over time as well; just that we don’t pay enough attention to notice the balance is going south. Then one day we are shocked to realize it is already bankrupt and too late to refinance.

I came across this book few months back that is very healing – “Triumph of the Heart”. The remedy to any broken relationship is, a sincere apology. As simple af. What if the apology never comes? Find meaning in every situation and still forgive anyway. It’s easier said than done but it’s still better than holding grudges.

I have a list of people that bankrupted their trust funds. Some people took effort to refinance, some never. It doesn’t matter anymore though, I cannot be bothered. I wish them well anyway =) Kill em with kindness, they might not deserve that but it gives me peace of mind. ❤
